Overview

Developed in response to operational lessons from modern conflicts, ICS Monitoring gives tactical units real-time spectrum awareness to detect, characterise, and locate RF activity across contested electromagnetic environments.

Challenges Facing Industry

Modern conflict has transformed the electromagnetic environment. The increased use of drones, electronic warfare, jamming and increasingly agile communications means threats can appear, move and change rapidly. Tactical units need immediate visibility of RF activity without relying solely on centralised analysis or conventional monitoring infrastructure. The challenge is turning data from distributed sensors into timely operational intelligence by identifying anomalous transmissions, locating emitters, and providing early warning of potential threats within a highly dynamic and contested battlespace.

Project Approach

ICS Monitoring was developed in response to requirements emerging from contemporary high-intensity conflict, where conventional spectrum monitoring approaches could not fully address the speed and mobility of tactical operations. ATDI created a software-led environment that integrates distributed RF sensors and direction-finding equipment to provide continuous spectrum surveillance. The platform combines signal detection, automated alarming, classification and emitter localisation using techniques including AoA and TDoA. Its vendor-neutral architecture lets operators incorporate different sensors based on operational requirements, while mapping and visualisation give tactical users a common picture of electromagnetic activity, including signals associated with UAVs and other potential threats.

Solution Outcome

ICS Monitoring turns distributed RF sensor data into actionable spectrum awareness for tactical operations. Operators can detect anomalous activity, identify and locate emitters, monitor potential drone-related signals and build a real-time picture of the electromagnetic environment, providing earlier warning and better information for operational decision-making in contested conditions.
