Antenna modelling for GSM-R networks

Challenges:

To improve radio coverage on the Kartuzy – Lębork Poland railway line, ATDI optimised the antenna installations to ensure the users (hand portables) and the base stations could communicate at all times.

Approach:

Using ATDI’s radio network planning tool, HTZ Communications, the team determined the nominal antenna parameters for the radio system operating in both the VHF band at 150MHz and GSM-R.

Solution:

Optimising the antenna parameters allowed the radio network planners to improve the handovers between handheld portable radios used on the railway and the base stations.

Conclusion:

This project improved the overall effectiveness of the radio network ensuring a robust and flexible communication network.
