Stratalignment OY, a Finnish defence supplier, has developed a live concept demonstrator using HTZ Warfare to explore the role of 5G Edge Tactical Networks in modern military operations. Designed for war gaming, this scenario enables operational concept development and demonstrates how network resilience can be maintained under deliberate attack.
Centred on a harbour staging area, the simulation begins with full mobile network coverage, distinguishing between in-building (blue), handheld outdoor (green), and in-vehicle (yellow) connectivity. When an adversary drone strike disables a rooftop base station, HTZ Warfare illustrates the real-time degradation of coverage, particularly indoors and across critical yard areas.
Tactical recovery is then demonstrated by activating an Edge 5G base station deployed by the military unit. This restores near-complete coverage, despite being positioned 10 metres lower than the original tower, showcasing the speed and efficiency of tactical reconstitution. Further complexity is added by simulating the activation of counter-UAV systems. Despite aggressive jamming in the centre, friendly command and control is preserved thanks to targeted ICT overlays.
Google Maps integration allows operators to zoom in and out, add custom map layers, and visualise coverage in real-world terrain, making the scenario easy to interpret. While the current scenario is manual, HTZ Warfare provides automation tools that streamline the creation and comparison of multiple network states. This enhances planning by allowing tactical units to rapidly assess terrain-specific coverage and understand the operational effects of interference, restoration, and countermeasures with greater speed and detail.
This demonstrator is more than a technical simulation; it’s a proof-of-concept for deploying, disrupting, and reconstituting 5G tactical infrastructure under combat conditions. It illustrates how intuitive visualisation and multi-layered network planning are becoming indispensable to modern defence operations.

5G Edge Tactical Networks:
5G Edge tactical radios combine high-speed 5G connectivity with localised edge computing to deliver resilient, real-time communications for military operations. Designed for deployment in contested or infrastructure-poor environments, they enable secure voice, data, and sensor integration at the point of need. In this demo, the technology restores critical coverage following an attack, supports counter-UAV operations, and maintains uninterrupted command and control.
